$35,000 - $45,000 per year
Full Time
40 hours per week plus overtime as scheduled. Rotates on-call responsibilities

Summary of function:

The Trainer is responsible for the overall management of training needs for the Nicholasville Campus including developing, planning, coordinating, scheduling, facilitation and/or provision of mandatory staff trainings, New Employee Orientations (NEO), PCC/PCP in-service trainings, and staff development programs in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to assure that the highest degree of quality client care can be maintained at all times.

Organizational Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Can support KyUMH’s mission and vision as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  2. Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  3. Exhibits effective communication skills including proper use of agency communication systems.
  4. Exhibits sound stewardship by effectively managing information resources to achieve the objectives of The Kentucky United Methodist Children's Homes.
  5. Supports all functions that attain and maintain accreditation with regulatory agencies.
  6. Participates in appropriate professional development programs and in services to attain and maintain competency.
Supervisory Duties:
  1. Provides direction and leadership through training and crisis management, and encourages innovation and creativity with Youth Care Workers. Provides regular reports to supervisors regarding staff training compliance.
  2. Promotes team building and teamwork
  3. Provides support for the overall well-being of the Youth Care Workers and residents campus-wide, assuring that the Youth Care Workers adhere to staffing obligations with regard to clients’ treatment needs and program and agency protocol.
  4. Mentors Youth Care Workers to develop and maintain effective skills necessary to respond to and engage with clients with histories of trauma and support a trauma informed care system.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for staff development and in-service training programs while working in conjunction with agency staff.
  2. Develops with directors, supervisors,and direct care staff identification of training needs and develops opportunities for trainings necessary to support employee learning needs.
  3. Provides one-on-one training to staff in order to further coach and train in identified areas of struggle.
  4. Responsible for arranging the trainers for or conducting all necessary training sessions for New Employee Orientation.
  5. Ensures that classrooms or other training areas are properly prepared before and after use, including the preparation and collection of sign-in sheets.
  6. In collaboration with the departmental Directors, formulate training policies, programs, and schedules based on identified training needs.
  7. Provides adequate notice for scheduled trainings and cancellations. Notice is provided via email reminders and bulletin board postings, as needed.
  8. Selects and/or develops and standardizes appropriate instructional manuals and reference materials, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials. Assures that they remain current and available to staff.
  9. Takes part in needed learning activities by attending conferences and training seminars as necessary.
  10. Communicates monthly/quarterly through a written report to each staff and supervisor regarding any required training deficits obtained that month and also every quarter with all training deficiencies.
  11. Develops an annual training calendar and monthly in-service schedule. Ensures trainings are offered at a variety of dates and times to assist all staff have ample opportunities to attend.Maintains current postings of all scheduled training events.
  12. Works with all programs to develop a comprehensive and efficient New Employee Orientation training schedule, and acts as the primary point person during the New Employee Orientation sessions for new hires.
  13. Provides CPR and First Aid training and re-certification for staff as assigned, per agency policy.
  14. Ensures completion of feedback for each training staff attends and incorporates feedback into future development of trainings with the assistance of Supervisor, HR Coordinator and other supervisory staff as appropriate.
  15. Oversees staff compliance with RELIAS trainings among staff.
  16. Acts as the primary (or secondary) trainer of Safe Crisis Management (SCM) for the agency, ensuring that all JKM contractual obligations are being implemented as well as ensures as a trainer that current certification is at all times in place.
  17. Ensures all agency training sign-in sheets are entered into Training Tracker, and provides individual training reports to all staff every April, July, and October.
  18. Other duties as assigned.
  19. To cover on-call duties as assigned.
On-Call Responsibilities:
  1. Remain physically available to respond to crises as dictated by agency policy.
  2. Work Saturday and Sunday of on-call week; off prior Friday and following Monday of on-call week
  3. Announce to all programs you are on-duty.
  4. Be available to all programs to answer questions and address staff concerns. Make certain that staff is following correct procedures.  
  5. Be available by phone after hours; be no more than one hour from campus at any point during on-call
  6. Assure that staff complete Incident Reports as required.
  7. If ESPI is utilized, debrief all staff involved and document debriefing procedures.
  8. Notify Clinical Director according to procedure.
Job Specifications:
  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must have a valid state of residence driver’s license.
  3. Successful completion of a thorough background check and drug screen.
  4. Four (4) years of education from a college or university and one (1) year of work experience in a child-caring facility; or a high school diploma or an equivalence certificate and at least five (5) years work experience in a child-caring facility.
  5. Is able to become certified as an instructor in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) Emergency Safety Physical Interventions (ESPI).  Remains current on ESPI review.  Is willing to use ESPI when necessary in keeping with agency policy and is able to appropriately and successfully provide such training to staff.  
  6. Is able to complete and maintain current status in areas of training competency including but not limited to RPPS, TIC,Clinical Documentation and PREA.
  7. Is able to become trained in CPR and First Aid.  Remains current

Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, presentation and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in a multi-priority environment utilizing strong project management skills. Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to self-start, work independently and adhere to timelines on a consistent basis with minimal assistance and supervision. Effective team player with the ability to work within a cross-functional team. Ability to conduct meetings and lead/facilitate groups in a learning process. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships utilizing a respectful, strengths-based approach. Knowledge of applicable training principles, theoretical approaches, and techniques for conducting formal and informal training, preferred. Ability to analyze training/development needs and resources. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
