As a result of recent events of injustice to black Americans, we at the Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes reflect on the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. addressing those who said racial healing would come if we waited patiently, “Human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and the persistent work of dedicated individuals who are willing to be co-workers with God.”

We now realize how our organization has been waiting on racial healing, rather than being an agent of change. We are committing to asking the hard questions and doing the work to become a more equitable organization. Going forward we will actively seek opportunities to listen to and learn from our black and brown staff, board members and friends.

Our prayer is that God will open our eyes to what he is calling us to do to create a world where the black children we serve and love can be assured that their lives matter.
