KyUMH joins Kentucky Businesses Against Trafficking

Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes (KyUMH) is now officially a member of Kentucky Businesses Against Trafficking (KBAT).

This means we are teaming up with over 250 businesses and organizations across the state to raise awareness and take real action in the fight against human trafficking. It’s a serious issue—one that often flies under the radar—and we’re proud to be part of a movement working to change that.

This isn’t our first step in this fight, however. At KyUMH, we’ve been working to protect vulnerable youth for years, and that includes providing education and training for our staff to help them identify the signs and know what steps to take. Through these efforts, we’ve built a culture of awareness and advocacy.

We’ve also tackled this issue through our Caminos program, which supports unaccompanied immigrant children. These young people are especially vulnerable to trafficking, and the Caminos program has been vital in helping them stay safe, supported, and informed as they navigate new environments.

Joining KBAT was the natural next step. KBAT is a statewide initiative launched by Secretary of State Michael Adams back in January 2025, in hopes to get the business community involved in spotting and stopping trafficking in our own backyards. “Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery, and we must do all we can to put an end to it in Kentucky,” Adams said. “As Kentucky’s Chief Business Official, I am happy to partner with our business community to raise awareness of how to spot and report trafficking.”

KBAT gives organizations like ours access to free training and resources to help us recognize the signs of trafficking and know what to do when we see them. Thanks to partnerships with the Refuge for Women and the PATH (People Against Trafficking Humans) Coalition, members get tools and training that empower employees to be on the lookout and speak up.

Here at KyUMH, we care deeply about protecting vulnerable youth and families, and this partnership aligns with our mission. We are honored to stand alongside other organizations who are committed to creating real change.
